Steam Atomizing Desuperheaters (also called Steam Ejector Atomizing Desuperheater) serve a wide range of applications. Steam Atomizing Desuperheaters are recommended for use where sufficient high-pressure steam is available to provide the atomizing steam supply. The most frequent application would be in combination reducing-desuperheating stations where flow rates vary widely. Steam Atomizing Desuperheaters utilize steam at higher than line pressure to atomize water.
In Steam Atomizing Desuperheater, the ejector action is used to entrain condensate from the pipeline. This type of desuperheater is most commonly used when coolant water pressure is low or non-constant.
Approach point as low as 6oC over saturation is possible.
Advantages:
- High Turndown ratio up to 50:1
- No moving parts
- Negligible pressure drop
Disadvantages:
- Atomizing steam required
- Additional expenses due to pipework and control
Applications:
- Control steam temperature to dryer drums in paper manufacturing
- Reduce temperature of high pressure steam reduced to a usable pressure
- Control temperature to evaporators
